Ways To Avoid A/c Breakdowns This Summer Season
Every year we go on service calls where the air conditioner isn't cooling and the cause is restricted air circulation from an exceptionally dirty filter. Filthy filters minimize indoor air quality, make the house less comfortable, and can result in frozen indoor coils, ultimately leading to severe repair work.
2. Switch Shut off
Some heating and cooling systems have a wall switch at the indoor system for safety and convenience that can be puzzled with a light switch. Your air conditioner will not start if this is inadvertently changed off or left off during moderate weather condition. Always check the condition of this switch before calling us.
3. Tripped Breaker
One of the most typical causes of no-cool calls is a tripped breaker. Something is triggering the breaker to trip. Often, it's something easy, like a bad breaker, loose wire, or a bad capacitor.
4. Refrigerant Leaks
An air conditioning system is a sealed system. Your air conditioner performance falls and electrical energy usage increases. Your air conditioner might not cool.
Some thermostats should be switched between heating mode and cooling mode. If the switch is in the incorrect position or breaks, your air conditioner will not begin. The switch may break; a voltage spike may trigger a malfunction, and so on.
6. Clogged Drain Line
Air conditioners pull moisture out of humid air while lowering the temperature. The moisture is generally drained out of your home through your plumbing system. We clear the drain lines as part of our spring air conditioning tune-up or you can have it done separately, as needed.
A contactor is an electromechanical switch in your air conditioner. Sometimes the silver coating on a contactor will wear off and the contactor will stick, causing the outdoors system to run continually, which is costly. We inspect these as part of a spring tune-up, clean the surface of the contactors if needed, and recommend replacement if failure appears imminent.
8. Dirty Evaporator Coil
The evaporator coil is located inside your home ... Occasionally the coil has to be cleaned up or dust and dirt develop will restrict the coil's heat transfer capabilities and decrease system air flow. Dirty coils increase operating cost and lower the convenience of your house. * Must be done by A/C Expert
9. Filthy Condenser Coil
The condenser coil is the outdoors portion of your air conditioning system. A restricted or dirty coil mishandles, increasing electrical energy use and minimizing system cooling capability. Keeping it clean will go along way in decreasing energy costs and reducing the wear and tear on your cooling system.
10. Duct Leaks
With a forced air heating & cooling system you pay to condition air. The ductwork provides the air to the various spaces. If the ductwork that supply's this air lies outside of the area you want conditioned like basement, crawl space or attic has leaks, you are paying to condition an area that you do not wish to condition and minimize the quantity of air that could be conditioning the rooms you want to condition. This causes longer run times and higher energy costs. Ineffective ductwork (your air circulation system) is a major energy waster in many Lexington SC air conditioning repair homes.
